Ancient woodland, painted into permanence
FRAGMENTS OF TIME
2025-2026
These works begin in ancient woodland and end at the desk — slowly.
Fallen bark from a 200-year-old Crimean Pine at Tyntesfield, Bristol forms the canvas.
The tree shapes the composition. The hand follows.
Each piece carries a quiet trace of that time — light, stillness, and family walks beneath this historic tree. The bark is both canvas and storyteller, transformed into hand-painted works that honour nature, memory, and the art of noticing.
Slow work, carried from the quiet of the woodland it came from.

These are not paintings on canvas. They are fragments of a real tree, from a real place, held in the hand and made precious.
The Miniatures series began quietly — and found its way into international exhibitions. Each piece remains exactly what it began as: one of a kind.
Before the bark, there was the
city.
Before gold leaf, there was a
lens.
My mixed media and photography work began in 2024 — rooted in the same impulse: to take what already exists and push it until it says something it couldn't say on its own.

Hand-painted bark pendant · gold acrylic on bark wood
Every piece in this collection starts the same way: a fragment of fallen bark from ancient woodland, cleaned and painted entirely by hand, its shape left exactly as it was found. Here, the wing splits into two mirrored halves — one in azure blue, one in warm brown and black — each carrying the same radiating gold fan, outlined in white, meeting at a shared centre line.
Celastrina takes its name from the genus known as the Azures — small blue butterflies named directly for this exact shade. Each piece in the Bark & Grain jewellery series is named for a cloud or a butterfly — something real, that still leaves room for the imagination to wander.
One name. One piece.
Retired when sold.

Each work in the Bark & Grain series carries one name. The bark is real — not cast, not replicated, not recreated. A two-hundred-year-old pine shaped it. Collected, restored, and painted — one brushstroke at a time — until its story surfaced. None of it can be repeated. One piece. Forever.
